Families Together in Albany County Announces New Director

10/20/2009

Albany, NY  - 10/20/09 - Families Together in Albany County in partnership with Albany County Department for Children, Youth and Families is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Dr. Andrew J. Salem as Director of the program.

Dr. Salem will oversee program activities and provide direction and leadership to ensure that the vision, mission and core principles of the program are achieved.  Dr. Salem joined Families Together in Albany County earlier this year as Program Manager.  As Program Manager, he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program, quality assurance, and compliance.

"My experience as a foster parent and adoptive father of a 15 month old, who I adopted through the Albany County Department for Children, Youth and Families was a life changing experience," says Dr. Salem.  "I could not believe the emotional, social and behavioral problems that could develop in such a short period of time, and how providing a stable home and advocating for needed support services could help her overcome these challenges."

Prior to joining Families Together in Albany County, Dr. Salem spent 20 years as a research scientist and technology mannager at GE Global Research and several small technology companies.

"I realized that after a long career in technology, I was proudest of my work as a foster/adoptive parent. I am both thrilled and honored to be able to serve the families of Albany County as Director of Families Together in Albany County," said Dr. Salem.

Dr. Salem holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University, a B.S. in the same discipline from Princeton University, and 6 United States Patents.
